The Gravity Rules
Rule 1: The force of gravity is the source of all life.
Without gravity, our sun and its planets would not exist, and the conditions that brought life to our planet never would have happened. Gravity quite literally pulled it all together so that life could happen.
Rule 2: All energy is the result of the force of gravity.
All forms of energy—be they carbon based, radiant, inertial, or nuclear—have their origins in the accretion of mass due to the force of gravity. From the sun to oil to coal, it all starts with gravity.
Rule 3: All change is the result of the force of gravity.
Water flowing down a hill, the crumbling of an ancient castle, the decay of a fallen tree, our sagging bodies, perhaps even time itself—the relentless force of gravity is the agent of all change.
Rule 4: The Force of gravity has no intention.
Gravity is the ultimate equal opportunity employer. It singles no one out and treats us all equally.
Rule 5: Every structure's primary purpose is to resist the force of gravity.
From the outer membrane of an amoeba, to the steel framework of a sky scraper, to the skeleton of your own body, the primary purpose of all structures here on Earth is to resist the force of gravity. Gravity is the constant to which all form must respond.
Rule 6: The force of gravity is inexhaustible.
The force that holds our moon in its orbit, that keeps our atmosphere from dissipating into space, that keeps our oceans in their basins, and your bottom pressed into your chair, is neither consumed or diminished in the process.
Rule 7: Gravity is the ultimate cause of death.
Our lives are finite. We’re born, we grow and learn, and move through our lives in a constant relationship with gravity. Eventually, the structure that is our body wears out and finally succumbs to gravity.
